Looking for a geologically unique and fascinating nature walk? Check out the Hobe Sound Scrub Preserve located south of Bridge Road between US-1 and Dixie Highway in Martin County. This 28-acre preserve offers a 3/4 mile loop nature trail that has elevation! Yes, there are hills because this preserve is located on an ancient sand dune that formed when most of Florida was under the ocean over 100,000 years ago. The ancient habitat you can see here is called scrub and it is critical because it supports a wide variety of rare listed species and has very unique plants. Take your time and check out all the wildflowers, cacti and love vine and keep your eyes peeled for any native wildlife.
